I have an 01 SLT Yukon XL with a 5.3. I have owned it for 8 years and 80k. It has always felt underpowered. It's not too bad around town or even the hwy. however start up a slight hill or tow something and it really feels weak.

A few months ago I picked up a 04 Denali with a 6.0 with about 40k. Wow what a difference!!! I wish the XL had the 6.0. I love the way the Denali drives. I have not really checked the milage, but i don't think it is all that different around town, and the Denali is so fun to drive.

Get the Denali it is worth it!! Just my opinion, but I get to drive both everyday and take the 6.0 every time I have a choice.

I've also recenlty gone from a 02 5.3 Tahoe to a 07 6.2 Denali, sure it uses a little more fuel around town (wife driving), did Greenville to Raleigh airport and back just short of 170 miles 90% freeway, used just over half a tank and averaged 16 mpg. The difference? No one passed me there and back, i travelled in style, and most importantly, i looked good.

Over the 5.3 Tahoe, i'd say and mainly because of premium fuel, it cost me an estimated extra $10.00 compared to the Tahoe. If you gave me the choice before and knowning what i know today compared to both cars.

THATS A BARGIN!

Seriously, though, my wife used around a tank of fuel on her Tahoe per month, very limited miles, now she uses about 1 and a half, but, that is because we use the Denali when ever we can now. I use my Jetta for work only, everything else we do.. we do in style.. I love it and couldn't careless on the price of fuel.

as nike would say, just do it!

Cheers POLO

I have a 2010 escalade with 6.2 and USED to get 19 highway and ~16 average (mostly stop and go). This was while I was driving slow and still getting used to the size of the escalade. I drive roughly 30 miles each way, with only about 4-5 of those miles being on the interstate. I started driving a little harder and started to get 15mpg. I have since switched to 24's and from what the DIC tells me, I get 13.5. Then again I Also drive a lot quicker now. I averaged getting 16.5 mpg driving from new orleans to houston (roughly 80mph) (when I was on 18's I got 19mpg).

It seems like the higher year vehicle's get better mpg because my 07 Escalade 6.2L gets 11.1 mpg with mixed city/highway driving.

I averaged 18.5 on the hwy this week while on vacation and its been at least 106 all week long. In town I get 13.5-14 and I stomp on it every chance I get. 6.2 with a good tune is the way to go.
