I may be switching over to ls30. I too was using valvoline but switched back to Mobile one and pressures cold and hot are much better but after reading the ls30 specs I am going to be giving it a try before my first tow next weekend.

So you have to buy at least $216 worth of oil?

Yes! Look around your town for an ACDelco dealer. The company I found is Florida based and had all kinds of ACDelco and other brands but racks and racks of AC Delco batteries too. They are not listed on ACs website as they are a wholesaler. See if you can find such up there.

Thanks Pete, now tell my kids when I make them do their chores!

About due for my first oil change since I purchased our 2012 Denali XL, think I might give it a try. Got 7 qts on RockAuto for $41 shipped. This will be at about 3,500 mile interval but last was done by a oil change place & not sure what was used, planning to go 5K changes for future.

Do you not like the AC Delco Professional (long) filter?

They use cardboard end caps

sounds great tell you have a blowout
it will be a cardboard sludge disaster in your engine (meaning your enigne will become seized if it blows out)

the cheap comes out expensive.

As Brent mentioned those "E" filters are of lessor quality. Now if we had a non-AFM engine, I wouldn't bother. But since we do, and have that fine pickup screen under the oil pressure sensor that feeds oil to the VLOM, clogging that up with pieces of cardboard is a recipe for disaster. We've seen lots of guys wonder what this stuff is when their oil pressure sensors act up and they find the screen all plugged up.

Champion Labs makes both the Mobil 1 filters and the K&N Gold filters. I've been buying the K&Ns for $9 each delivered from Amazon; now they are on a 2 order minimum which is fine by me.

The M1 filter delivered noticeably lower oil pressure, about 2-3 psi on average compared with K&N.

Clay, this is a chart I made for comparisons:

Update....

Ok, It's been a little over 600 miles now. The oil pressure once warmed up is about the same as before now, maybe 1-2 psi higher across the board, cold start, hot, etc. What hasn't changed it the rattle or piston slap, it's still gone with this oil. Fuel economy has improved slightly but only one tank to go by so far. Time will tell.

Guess I was a little too excited and forgot that most oil delivers higher pressures when new compared to the stuff you just got rid off!

I looked this up today and the viscosity specs are little different from regular Mobil 1 5W30. However, it is a Group IV based oil, like M1 used to be before 2010. Still "thinner" then the stuff I just bought and more than 3X as expensive.
