New Engine Oil and Oil Pressure

If you want higher viscosity oil?
I run Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5-40w. Here's a link about it:

It's viscosity is 13.8 Kinematic Viscosity @ 100 C, mm2/s, ASTM D445

I'm on my 2nd 8000 mile change interval with it and a Fram XG10575

Mobil has a rebate program again this yr.

I took advantage of it last yr. and got a check back from Mobil for $242. They're not as generous this yr as last.

Last yr I bought it on sale at my NAPA for $22/gal. Then subtract $12/gal for the rebate, and that equaled $10/gal.

My oil pressure is never high or low.

I'm gathering that this oil was formulated specifically for aluminum block engines. Wouldn't it do just as well or better in iron blocks? As far as the pressure change differences between aluminum and iron blocks, I'd imagine this oil to be more effective at raising and/or maintaining pressure in the iron block. I have a prominent lifter tick at cold start that quickly fades to almost inaudible, but I don't believe I have any piston slap noises. Or maybe I do and I've dismissed the faint tap as that noisy lifter. I'm not opposed to trying out a slightly more viscous oil if it'll help. Not at all concerned with sacrificing .0x MPG if that's the trade-off, either.

I reckon so Chris. Tolerances are tighter on an iron block so pressure would be a little higher. The engine is on its second oil change with this new stuff and hasn't used a drop. Time to get some more. RockAuto had it again for $18 a bottle plus shipping last week, which beats me driving down to West Palm for $22 a bottle.

Same oil at Rock Auto for $18.86 plus shipping. Amazingly enough saw same specs and DEXOS Gen 2 spec with Amazon Basics 5w-30 full synthetic oil of 5 quarts bottle for $16.99 and free shipping.

That Chevron ( AC Delco) oil in 5w30 is some pretty robust oil. Check out the specs on it at PIQA. I thought about going to it but I’ve stayed with the M-1. I use the Ultra 10575 filter on both of my Chevys and use the Ultra filter on my diesel tractor.

Got one email that said Part #88865743 is no longer available through GM; GM has however replaced that part with part #88865926 which is what they are currently offering in its place.

Got a subsequent email that my order of four 5QT jugs of Part #88865743 is in transit. I guess I'll see what shows up tomorrow.

Rock Auto can't ship to CA currently because AC Delco hasn't provided needed Prob 65 warnings (this is new, I previously ordered through Rock Auto).
