Hello all,

After finally getting the hoe back together after the lower intake manifold gasket replacement (nightmare central, don't leave a paper towel in the intake, doesn't work well) I had to replace the radiator as it was leaking at the oil cooler line. I had put it off for a while but it was no big deal in the end. Finally drove it to work Friday. It wasn't pretty. Stops were long and left you wondering if it really would stop. Any minor bump and it would shake, rattle and roll. I drove home from work Friday knowing there was no way I could let my wife drive this thing. On the way home from work today I stopped and got new rotors, pads and front shocks. What a difference! It's like a totally different truck now!

It's a 1997 4wd LT (152K) that I bought about 6 weeks ago and drove just two miles to my house. I knew she needed some work but wasn't expecting all that I've done. Now that she rides good (rear shocks are next) I'm back in love with her again.

So far I've done:

Lower intake manifold gasket
A/C recharge (twice so far)
radiator (and new lower hose)
neoprene seat covers for the front seat bottoms
new pads for the front (rotors were fine as it turns out)
new front shocks (Monroe from Advance)

I'm sure I'm missing something but I'm still so blown away that the shocks and brakes could make such a dramatic difference. If you haven't changed your shocks you might be surprised....

I almost forgot rear diff gasket and mobile 1 synthetic gear oil. Need to do the front tomorrow....

My shocks are OE, I'm going for 300K on them. Hahaha

Thanks for the welcome! I looked at the sway bar bushings and end links and they looked great. In fact they looked so good I wondered if they had been replaced. The shocks were bilsteins (which I'm pretty sure weren't stock....) and they were dead as dead gets. May do the rear ones today if I don't say screw it and put the boat in the water!

Donnie,
Not sure about mods yet. I bought it just to be a boat hauler but it does need tires. And new tires would look good on bigger rims and bigger rims means I should lift it a bit. And if I lift it a bit then I really should put a meaner exhaust on there. And then.... oh boy, here we go.

If you have the towing package from the factory the Bilsteins were stock.

Out of the 3 Tahoe/Yukon and Denali obs trucks I've bought they all needed shocks. It's amazing how people don't notice the poor ride lol. Bilstein HD's on all of mine.
