I have a 1997 Tahoe GT4 option. The front axle leaks out the seals and it is grinding/whirring when I drive it. I figure it is easier and cheaper to just try and find a good used axel/carrier assembly and just swap it out.

I am unfamiliar with these carriers/axels and My question is, how do I know if I have the one with the two switches/actuators or if it is the one with one switch/actuator?

What and where should I be looking?

Thank-you so very much for any help and or pics if possible. I am hoping to do the switch this weekend so I can drive her to work on monday.

unless modified by tsb you can use any front 8.25 ifs axle of that year or older obs. you will just look at the axle to see what version you have. the components are to the right of carrier body on the right axle tube extension. based on your gt4 code you will need a 3.73 gear ratio

This is the old style:

Any old one can be converted to the new one.

Thank-you for the reply! :)

When I go looking for a replacement axel, I am being asked if I have a axel/carrier with just the actuator or if there are switches mounted on the axel/carrier.

I guess I do not know where to find these switches or at least figure out what type axel I have.

This is what I do know, I have the newer style actuator presently in my current axel. There is one connector on it and three wires coming out of it. Those wires run to the top of the frame. I do not see any other connectors or switches.

I am just not sure about these switches and where they would be or not be for that matter.

Thanks-you once again.

opposite of the old style actuator is a feed back switch. weather are not it is used depends on any mods that were done. here is a breakdown of it.
