Hey , i just got a 97 Yukon SLT , and i went to get it inspected and it failed.

The shop says it needs , new Ball joint on the lower right side
Pitman arm "pops"
Front Shocks
all that is kind of expected with a 13 year old truck , but the thing i don't like is they are saying the Right side rear steel brake line is worn through , now im no mechanic but i've wrenched on everything i've owned and If the brake line had a hole in it i would be spewing blake fluid everywhere and the truck woudn't stop worth a damn wouldnt it?

any one ever have this problem before? anyone know where i can get the part?

also , i did search this, other than pulling off my wheel and measuring how can i tell it i have 11in rear drums?

first off, welcome....just for safety sake, have another shop double check the suspension. But almost all those are dangerous if they fail while doing 75 MPH on a highway....so good replacements if they warrant.

Sometimes you can find a shop that will install parts you purchase and bring in. Saves you their mark up on parts,etc...and you can get them locally cheaper from NAPA,etc.

This is all great advice. I would definitely check another shop just to be safe but if their analysis is the same then you should definitely replace that stuff to keep yourself safe. Great idea on the parts blue! :welcome:

Welcome,

If you have a potential brake line problem, check it right away. It is easy to check as those steel lines are fastened to the banjo housing. Look for an area where something could have been rubbing. Like a parking brake cable or ?

The steel brake lines have a thick wall, but it is by design. If half of that thickness is gone, it is an accident waiting to happen. It obviously is not through yet, or you would not have rear brakes at all, and you would leave a puddle everywhere you stop.

These trucks have dual brakes system’s (front / rear), but it can still be dangerous if a line blows when you jump on them.

The good news is, places like NAPA have brake lines made up with the double flares and fittings on them. Just measure the length of the one you have and pickup the replacement. If I remember right, they come in and assortment going up in one inch increments.

It is easy to do yourself but also should be fairly cheap for someone else to do it for you…. :)

Thanks for all the advice , quick and honest unlike some of the other forums i've been apart of in the past.

i have seen when i search for how to replace a pitman arm many of threads directing people to search for the how to , but when i search for the how to i find nothing....

is this something that was done up on tahoeforums.com? and never brought over here? if anyone can direct me to the link it would be appreciated

FWIW, I just pulled all of my "how to's" over to the new tech section. I also brought over the instructions on killing the DRL's, but left the citation and credit quoted for posterity's sake. :)

Welcome to the forum!!! We're cool here until you prove you're retarded, or go on a flame fest, or something like that. We've got folks here that drive and wish they could wrench, we've got folks that just wrench and wish they could drive, and everyone in the middle. Again, welcome.
