Hey whats up! New guy here with a 99 2 door 4x4 Tahoe like the title says. I've always had a thing with 4x4's, but all my build experience previous to this is with lowered go-fast trucks. I had an 06 RCSB Silverado capable of 12's (rained out at track every time I took it though) and recently sold it off due to the economy. Well, I can't be without a toy and a friend happened to be selling his Tahoe that I loved, so I picked it up and am going to be putting a bit of work in the *hopefully* near future.

Like I said, all my previous experience is with lowering kits, tuning, and cams... so I don't even really know where to start with lifts and winches yet lol. I know how to research, but I might need my hand held some to start off life with this thing, and for that I preemptively apologize. Well, that's enough for now... Here's a few pics... First, I'll toss out a pic of my old Silverado for credentials lol

Now, here's the Tahoe I just picked up....

I think right now the torsion bars are slightly cranked, but I can't be positive to tell you the truth... I haven't done much to it other than change the oil and a little electrical repair. It has the NBS Tahoe 20's on it for now which I want to swap out for some 18" NNBS Z71 Truck wheels with some Mud Terrains... I'm not going to get into all the newbie stuff I want to talk about here, instead here I am with my new truck! I'll see ya'll in the Off Road area pretty soon I'm sure.

I picked it up in August of '10 for $4500 with 170,000 on the clock exactly as it is in the pictures. It's pretty clean body wise... the undercarriage had no real surprises either, save for when I did the fuel pump. Got the straps clear of the tank, and watched as it did a gravity defying demonstration of anti-physics. It took me and a friend 2 prybars and hanging off the tank to get it to budge free. That was the only area of rust I really found and that was more or less just grime that had built up over the life of the 'hoe.

thats just how the two door tanks are, they wedge them in there really well. mine stayed in place with almost 25 or so gallons of gas in it... 2x4 and prybars to get it out and on the jack.

Yeah, that's a lot like how it looked with us. I filled up a day or so before the pump died, so I'd say I had about 20ish gallons in there. Pro-tip, don't let your friend hook up the fuel lines on the pump. He jammed the big fitting over what I think is a vent/pressure opening on the top of the pump. I had him cycle the key while I was down there checking for leaks and caught a full pressure stream of gas to my face. That was cold and fun!

Not really. It's got a Magnaflow catback, but that's really about it. It's going to stay the most tame out of everything I've owned I'm thinking. The 350 has almost 180,000 on it now and I'm hoping to milk it along as long as I can, but when it pops I'm going to do a 6.0 swap. The only thing I'm debating on is how big of a PITA its going to be if I have to do a tranny too. That'd be good enough for me... a 6.0 with a tune would move this thing along good enough I think.

Im sure by the time your 5.7 blows up, the 5.3 and 6.0 swaps will be easy to do. More and more companies are creating stuff to make this swap easier. Once mine blows or whatever happens to it, im sure ill be looknig hard into that swap as welll
