Only the top trim level of the 4Runner has AWD and automatic climate control. The lower trim levels have an old fashioned 4WD system. The interior is quite cramped, and they have the usual Toyota driving dynamics: numb steering, intrusive electronic nannies that can’t be shut off. I’d think comingfrom a BMW it would drive you mad. Your first trip down a bumpy, windy road in a Tahoe will be eye-opening as well.

Also, when you walk into a Toyota dealership, they “card” you. No AARP card, they send you on your way. :D

And take a look at how narrow the tires are on the 4Runner. Very off-putting from both a stylistic perspective as well as performance.
Toyota/Lexus have never been big into the looks and performance department, IMHO.

Idk if that statement is accurate. Lexus has F Sport and that whole line looks pretty good, as well as having wider tires. But yeah, the 4Runner Limited only has 7” wide tires. That’s pretty narrow. Especially thinking about my X5’s 11” rears.

Looks and performance? Toyota TRD’s are pretty badass from an off-road performance standpoint and I gotta say the 4runners are pretty cool looking.

Maybe you’re just talking about the sequoia? 1e1c160837a6b271b0a8b4a3b5f27908.jpg

I actually do like the looks of the 4Runner. I briefly considered one as well.
(In my opinion the previous body style is sharper).

However, the 4Runner is under powered and has only a 5 speed transmission. Also fairly cramped inside the interior if you are of taller stature. I am 6'4", so that is a big issue for me.

One of my coworkers has an FJ and his wife has a 4Runner... I feel trapped in both. Not enough shoulder room and just cramped. Back seat headroom is horrible, I have more room in the third row of the burb.

Well of course but the 4Runner and Cj are the price and size of a terrain and a wrangler.

Land cruisers have plenty of space. Same with sequoia.

Those would be the hardest pills to swallow for me. Around these parts though, I see as many 4Runners as Highlanders. Toyota people know that 4Runners (and Sequoias) are built in Japan, while Highlanders are built in Indiana, and they seem to ascribe a lot to that.

I wouldn't have seriously considered a 4Runner; just observing that they do seem to have a LOT of die-hard fans.

Good Afternoon,

I am finally ending a lease on my 2015 BMW 535 M Sport and am getting back into an SUV for towing and hauling. I have been driving BMW's for nearly 15 years now and have grown tired of them.

I have arrived at very solid deals on a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, V8 Hemi, Sterling Edition and a
2017 Tahoe, Signature Package.

I have had GC's in the past and they have always been very good vehicles--and getting better every generation.

However, I have also had my eye on Tahoes as well for their size and their commendable resale value as well as overall handiness.

I would appreciate hearing from folks who have driven both and perhaps had the same choice as I currently have.

Thank you in advance.

TG
So, what did you buy?
