New member first post. Purchased 2020 Tahoe premier 6.2 liter.. does anyone use mid grade or higher octane for theirs?

I always use highest at the pump.. 91, 92, or 93 depending on the station. Says to use minimum 91 on the inside of the gas cap. Worth it in my eyes for the longevity of the engine and the better performance (power and fuel economy).

If no ethanol is available I always use that too.. have found I get slightly better MPGs and the engine runs smoother.

There is a recent long thread with folks opinions on gas grades to use for their trucks, particularly the 6.2 engine. Someone here may find it for you and post the link.

I use 93, yes the trucks will run on lower octane, if you don't tow or if you live in a flat part of the country, and are not looking for performance you can run regular

I agree with using a premium over a basic fuel. I have run all option and premium is “smoother” I find.

The compression ratio on your engine is 11.5:1. That's firmly in premium-only territory. Lots of examples of earlier 6.2's (with only a 10.5:1 ratio) eating eating a piston under load on 87 octane fuel. Your engine has knock sensors that can help protect the engine from pre-ignition with low-octane fuel, but as many here have learned (and have the data to prove), the system isn't perfect and can't fully protect the engine under load.

I run either BP 93 or Mobile 91. Funny thing is that it seems to run better on the Mobile 91.

Welcome to the forum and use the recommended fuel listed in manual. Higher price for the top grade but engine longevity is worth it.
