if i got a flowmaster super 44 and just replaced the stock muffler with that, would i get the same performance increase as a whole exhaust system? because i know most of the time the piping they send you with the exhaust systems are the same size and its the freer flowing muffler that gives the performance increase...

and if so, would i need the 3" in and out centered? or 3" in and out offset? thanks everyone

Not really because a cat-back gets it's power gains from smooth bent tubing, smooth tube joints, and the more free flowing muffler together. Usually exhaust shop installs have mismatched pipe sizes and bad welds that impede exhaust flow. Don't buy a Flowmaster, they sound like crap on the LS series motors and drone like crazy that will drive you bonkers. Corsa is the best sound and Magnaflow is probably second. The GM accessory exhaust sounds good too, I found the performance one on eBay a while back for $350.

Disagree with 91RS....flowmasters sound kick ass!! They do drone a little bit but the sound is great IMO.... :rocking:

i LOVE the sound of Borla on any V8, but they are close to $1k... i was thinking of doing a custom setup with one exhaust pipe from each exhaust manifold (or header) going straight back, with a cat on each side (i live in CA... stupid emissions) meeting with an x-pipe, and then going back into 2 super 44's at the rear with tips (to cut down on a little bit of inside noise)... is that a good setup? or is it better to do the super 44 that has the center input to dual output?

i also thought about the flowmaster american thunder system, but swapping the 50 series it comes with with the super 44...

buy muffler ( insert any brand here) and keep stock tubing...a cat back wont help performance, but will lighten the wallet.

Flowmaster has just had such great advertising, people think it's good (just like Fram). If you hear something of quality like a Corsa in person, Flowmaster no longer sounds good. If you spend money for quality you get much better results. Corsa is nice and loud on acceleration but once at cruising speeds you can just barely hear it and there is ZERO drone. Which is exactly how a quality exhaust system is supposed to be and means no migrane before you even get to work. I stand by my statement that Flowmaster does not sound good on newer vehicles (with the ONLY exception being the Mustang, but there are still much better sounds out there).

Go on YouTube and search for "Corvette Corsa" and compare that to a Flowmaster and tell me it doesn't sound much better.
