Hello all just bought an 03 Tahoe LS yesterday. 189k miles. Runs and drives great. Clean inside and out. Small dent in front but other then that in real nice shape. Interior is really clean.. has a couple of dash lights out that I would like to address at some point but other then that it is a real nice truck. I am on the 2nd owner.

Any one have any tips or tricks I should know. Also is there anything that I should look into on the vehicle? Like what needs to be replaced or maintenance at this mileage. I was told the alternator and fuel pump both have been replaced.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Plugs ,wires, fluids all, do not flush tranny just drain and change filter and replace!! Before that maybe sea foam it! Check belts for cracking! On the 2001 and 2002 the dash lights are easy to change and or change to LED and a different color! Congrats!

I appreciate the response. I have is scheduled with my mechanic tomorrow to have all the fluids changed. Maybe over the weekend I will do the plugs and wires.

I did notice that my first gear winds out a bit before it shifts to 2nd but the rest shift perfectly. Its not terrible but I can definitely notice it.

Also wanted to mention the motor is the 5.3L

I haven't felt any issues with our trans since we flushed it. I agree with your plan, catch up on deferred maintenence, fix any problems and enjoy! I also have a few steering wheel button lights out.

I talked with my mechanic and he recommended that I flush the tranny. What are the reason that I would versus wouldn't want to do that?

I wouldn't, 4l60's do not take kindly to pressurized flushes. I have heard of a few transmissions going after a flush. If you are that worried about it, do a couple of trans filter replacements in a row like when you change your oil do the trans too.

Do a flush using this procedure, it uses the transmissions internal pump to pump out the old fluid, and won't harm anything in the process. It's the only way to make sure you get out all the old fluid. Dropping the pan multiple times is a PITA, the flush process took me less than an hour.

I used an empty gallon milk jug to catch the old fluid. I marked off 1 pint or 1/2 quart measurements, so I could keep track of how much to add back in.

Pump out 2 qts, shut off, refill, repeat. After 12-14 qts it will be clean.

Any luck with your trans shifting? I just picked up an 03 and noticed the same type of shifting. I have 138k on the clock and was hoping to hold out on a new trans as long as possible till I can get something more solid for towing.
