Anybody got a schematic, instructions, or video for replacing the controls?

I have an '07 Denali...but I suspect the process is much the same for similar models.

So I picked up the ac delco unit from amazon, but when plugged in I'm getting a displayed interior temp of 55 f (assuming default - rear view was 85). Anyone else have this issue? 2007 with aftermarket stereo if that helps.

Mine was like that too, the next day it was fine... not sure if it had to calibrate or what. After that they were within 3°F or so from each other.

If your old unit was fine, but were like me wanted better buttons do the following, it will take you about 20-30 min after you get the unit out of the car, but it is easy and clean, so you can do it on your kitchen table.

1) Disassemble the original unit, IIRC there was 4 torx screws (size 10) holding on the back, and then some clips to pop off the face.
2) set the pieces face down on the table (put a towel under them if you do not want to scratch the face)
3) remove the board for the display, again, pretty easy, you have to unplug the display from the main controller board, but it was not a challenge for me, IIRC there were some screws holding on the board to the unit.
4) Repeat for the new unit.
5) install the new face and the new display onto the old unit controller
6) it will work like original, without the temp.

NOTEs:
A) the new faceplate will technically work on the old unit.
B) The reason why you might want the new display is if you use the new buttons on the old unit the lights are too dim at night (I am a bit ****), for some reason the new unit's lights are brighter, and the screen is darker, so it does not look right when in the car at night. If you use the two pieces together they look right.
C) There was a writeup with pictures around here about some of this procedure, I think nathanjax did it.
D) I also had a problem with using the new unit, after a little while the fan would blow, but nothing would come out, it was like it did not open a door on my 2007... I went back to the original unit with the procedure above, and have not had any problems.

Good luck

John

^^^ Indeed, the next day it worked.

Another issue I'm having is that when I have the cluster selected to blow at face level (or auto), the rear air is blowing out the bottom (vs. from the roof). When I select the cluster blow air out the bottom - the rear roof vents blow. ????

Any ideas? Mismatched wiring on the replacement? Does anyone have a wiring diagram? Maybe I can just switch the two. Otherwise, I'll have to send it back and order another.

Thanks

The replacement unit had its own set of issues... Mine would apparently work ok for about 10 min and then although the blower would be blowing it would just make noise like a fan in a box without an outlet. So I swapped the original one back in and just used the face and the display from the new one... worked like a charm.

We have to program the module whenever they are replaced. Just a heads up... Your a/c controls are not plug and play...

Seriously? The units are specific for the vehicles, obviously there are different models, like the Traverse that are similar, but they bolt up differently so it should not be a problem. Why would they not be plug & Play?

I do not doubt you, as I had problems with the one I got... it just seems ridiculous to me is all that they are not.

They are not plug in play. The new one may work but it will not work 100% correctly until its programmed to your vehicle with a tech 2. I have tried it in several of my vehicles over the years and everytime I ended up have to reprogram the new ac controls.
If you plug into your vehicle with a high end scan tool or tech 2 you'll see you have hvac codes if you don't reprogram the new controls.
