Bumping this thread cause I find it very helpful with great info.

My '13 Escalade ESV needs a new steering rack assembly and really on the fence on rather to go with a remanufactured OEM or brand new aftermarket.

@Geotrash Over 2 years later how's the reman BBB Industries steering rack been holding up? Still feel similar to driving your 2012 with the original rack? (I suppose that could have changed as well in 2 years.)

There's less than a $50 price difference between the BBB Industries remanufactured versus new.
Reman $349
New $391

A remanufactured OEM is $749 from gmpartsdirect.com that includes a $150 core charge. However, with the size and weight I'm thinking the cost to ship that back for the core refund makes that mute.

It's holding up great and the steering feel is indistinguishable from my 2012 also. That said, a new rack for only $50 more is pretty tempting.

My ‘09 Esky has a refurb unit from Detroit Axle going in next Mo. It is as only $150 shipped w/ lifetime guarantee.

I’m keeping the core vs returning it free to activate the lifetime guarantee.

1st sign of leaks or failure I’ll send the OEM core off to be rebuilt at a pro machine shop in MI.

The racks are hit & miss depending on the core they use and the age of the reman unit that’s been drying out in a warehouse.

Hit n Miss. Trust but verify and have a plan B. If I get a year out of the rack from Detroit Axle, I’d be happy.

For the price they offered, it allows the original rack to be rebuilt correctly with no down time or core charge.

Considering you can buy a new gen 3 GM rack online for over $2.5k, this was the most efficient option to reach the goal of rebuilding the OEM rack on the truck.

i just buy used ones from a junkyard if it makes it the 30 days (standard junkyard warranty) without leaking then it's going to be fine....usually if it's going to leak it will do it right away within 2-3 days.
