Hi all.

I just bought a 2015 Tahoe LTZ for my wife, we have 5 kids between us and it was a great vehicle in regards to size, features, and price.

I got a high mileage one, 104k on the clock, but it's in great shape in and out. Got it for about 7k below KBB due to it having a dirty carfax(front/rear collision but airbags did not deploy, I checked it on lift there was no frame damage). That's the main reason I was able to afford the 2015, was looking at 2013 but the 2015 was just another level.

Anyway, wife loves it but here are some "issues" I'm having with it.

1)I tested all the features and they all work but for the life of me I can't get the frontal collision alert to go off. It's supposed to put a red light on the windshield and vibrate the seat. That being said I can't try to run someone off the road to test it. Any way to test this? I can tell you the car icon in the dash works(green and yellow car) and the vibrating seat works for everything else. Also the lane assist is working properly so I know the actual sensors should be working.

2)Being a MA car, it has some surface rust. I knew about it before I bought but for 26k this truck was a steal. I am debating to take it to a body shop to sand blast and repaint the undercarriage. Or I was going to wire wheel it and POR15 it all(did that on my 2006 F150) Here are some pics. Is this necessary or it looks OK as is? There are no rust holes or flaking, just rust color and some undercoating is peeling off. It can't be getting better though. I plan to run this truck into the ground, 200k miles I think.

I have a 2019 z71 LT and due to .... Situations haven't driven it much or had time to go over the manual. I can tell you that I had no idea that there was a frontal collision alert. Well I'm cruzing at 60 on a country road and some a*s decides to pull out in front of me an not step on the long one. I took my foot of the gas and refused to brake and coasted up to their A*S. Really F'in close. Dashboard and windshield lit up red, I was already red. You really have to be close. If you test this do it with a friend with an old car. The best I can figure they downloaded the a new covid interval to the vehicles 6 feet.

Try a cardboard box for your test but also remember there was frontal damage which may be effecting its performance.

You know what’s funny it went off tonight. Was driving around 40 mph and a car braked ******* front and the system worked. So that’s good because I was searching for the wiring schematics so I could short out the activation pin to set it but glad I didn’t have to do that.

I had the dealer scan the systems and all the sensors and self tests work so nothing is wrong with the sensors in the bumpers. They actually replaced one that was defective.

now just have to deal with the rusting issue. Ordered some LED lights for the highs and fogs but the HID looks a little yellow to me. Wonder if they make higher color temp DS3 bulbs? The ones in the truck look less than 6000k for sure. Replacing all the interior lights with LED as well hate the tired yellow look.
Loving the truck so far! This thing is the most advanced vehicle I have ever owned. All my other cars are 2006 model years. Lol

Any comments on the rust? Would you guys have it sanded/repainted now or just rock it the way it is?

I went from an 02 Avalanche to a 2015 Tahoe LT. I feel the same way. What an upgrade! I'm a minimalist and wouldn't have upgraded for years.Got it for 15k from my buddy's wife because of factory defective paint on the hood and roof. The rest of the truck is perfect and was well maintained. That's all they were going to give her for trade in. Best purchase I've ever made. The 6000k lighting will make a huge difference. Welcome to the club.

Yea, they need to see what they are up against before spitting out a price at you. There will be prep work and then application and the cost of materials and likely a HAZ MAT fee for disposal of all of it, if that is allowed in your state.
