I'm not buying it from the owner. they traded it in 6 months ago and it ended up at a local used lot.

once you have it registered in your name you can ask for all records at the local dealer. just hand them the registration card, the vin should be on there.

It must be registered to the owner of the corner lot its at. So they should be able to get the records?

Well it failed miserably at inspection. I was going to have a engine compression test done and they said dont even bother. To make a long story short. Oh well the search continues

I really thought that with the low miles and 1 owner i had a sure thing but they just didnt take good care of it mechanically i guess. There was a laundry list of problems

Yep that inspection might be the best $100 i've ever spent.
Moving on im going to check out a rare 2000 z71 next week. Fingers crossed
