The problem with going to bigger/wider tires is the offset of the stock 16" wheel ive found. I bought mine about 3 weeks ago, and the previous owner had 305/70R16 Coopers on the stock wheel. The tires were scraping on the lower arm and it cut the inside of the tire. Also, the ride sucked because the thin wheel was making a donut shape out of the tire so it would bounce a lot at highway speeds.
I went to 17" wheels and 295/70R17 (33.4") Nitto Trail Grappler M/T Great tire and it did really well in the sand too.
Clearance was tough though, the tortion lift and rear blocks were not tall enough to clear the tires completely. So i cut the edge of the bumper to get that extra clearance when I turn. It did the trick and i think it still looks good.
