Hey Guys,

I'm about to buy some new tires. The shop online quote is saying they need to put on new "tpms sensor valve kit" with labor. It's only 30 bucks for new stems/etc. Not the sensor itself. Do I need this, or can I just pass on this charge. For 30 bucks, I'd rather just have them do it if it will cause future issues. It is Firestone. They have always treated me and my Tahoe well. And they have 15% off Bridgestone tires. Can't beat this deal. Under $800 for all tires / mounted / balanced.

well you have to have the TPMS kit if you want to keep the TPMS. you dont have to put them in the new wheels but your light will stay on and will be alerted of low tire pressure all the time. all the kit does is allow them to put the stock TPMS into new rims.. but your just buying tires right? if your using the same rims and stuff just changing the tires your dont need it because they are already in your stock rims..

I've heard of shops telling people that removing the tires destroys the sensors so they have to replace the sensors, tell them f*ck off if they go that route.

My tire shop includes the rebuild kits whenever you buy a set of tires.

If you need new sensors...that's a different story. But, the sensors should last at least 100K miles.

If you don't put the sensors in you won't get a reading from your DIC of all 4 tire pressures... definitely do it :)
