Hello everyone! I've searched around these forums for the past few days and haven't found anyone with a problem similar to my own. I recently purchased a 1999 two-door tahoe 4wd with Z71 package, 350, and auto 4wd transfer case. It has 174,000 miles and is in pretty good shape.....couldn't pass it up for $800 haha. Anyway, the truck starts runs and drives fine in 2wd. After attempting to use 4wd, I can audibly hear the transfer case shift into 4wd, yet I have no power to the front wheels. When shifting into 4wd low, I hear the transfer case shift as well and it only pulls in 2wd, but low range. My dash lights(push button) all work accordingly, no flashing or crazy stuff, and I already pulled out my actuator from the front diff and verified that it was extending and retracting during the shift into and out of 4wd. My assumptions would indicate a problem in my front diff, but I have yet to drain it to check for metal particles in the oil, and I would think that a major issue in the front diff would have some sort of grinding noises, but there are none. I'd also like to take this time to thank everyone here for the wealth of information among these pages, I sincerely appreciate it .IMG_4780.jpg

unknown at this time.
numbers 11 or 14 may be broken or the parts they touch. i assume both cv shafts are complete and have no broken joints?

Well, it needed a starter, the shift lever was broken, and of course this 4wd issue. I bought it from a guy I work with who was in the process of moving and just wanted to get rid of it considering it was an extra vehicle. Fixed the starter and shift lever issue for about $80 and she runs just fine. Believe it or not, I offered him $1200 and he said "no way, I'll take $800 if you come pick it up tomorrow." You can bet I was there bright and early the next day haha.

Thanks man, it's a little bent but a little heat and persistence ought to straighten her back up.

Sadly, I haven't had time to pull it apart yet to verify. I'll be sure to check in when I do. Thanks again for all the help.

Just a quick update, after realizing that my front drive shaft was in fact not spinning while driving I assumed the worst and figured the transfer case needs a rebuild. After talking to the previous owner again he informed me that the reason it needed a new starter was because he had intermittent problems with it not starting and turned it over for too long(It gave me a trouble for the first couple days after I replaced the starter. New cap and rotor fixed that problem) and burned it up, then he had a buddy tow him home with a strap about 5 miles or so. When I asked if he put the transfer case in neutral he made this face:hmmm2:......mystery solved
