Hi there, I'm new to the site and to the USA. I'm from Edinburgh in Scotland and am over here for a 6 month visit, traveling around and seeing as much as I can from the drivers seat of a 97 Yukon. I've had the vehicle for about 7 weeks and have travelled over 7000 miles so far, not without some issues, as you may imagine !
The interior fan switch was fried, so that was repaired; the starter motor died in Upper Michigan; the fuel pump control/fuse was shorted/burned out so that got fixed.
Now a couple of questions for you - the brakes have a really bad judder when slowing from normal road speeds, but it's not emergency braking causing the ABS to activate. The rotors and pads were replaced not long ago. Any ideas about that ?
Also, when traveling at normal road speeds at normal engine speeds, the car develops a serious vibration at the wheels (I think). It feels as if I'm driving over those rumble strips you get at the edge of the highways, but several times worse ! It happens when traveling at around 42-44 mph, 47-48 mph and 52-54 mph, and at engine speeds of about 1500 to 1800 rpm. This can be defeated by increasing or decreasing the road speed, but I don't know what might be causing it. Again, any ideas folks ?
The vehicle is a 1997 Yukon SLT1500 with about 180,000 miles on the clock. It was really clean when I purchased it, with evidence of good maintenance, but little or no service history.
Any help or advice will be much appreciated.
