Hey guys, I recently bought myself a 2002 tahoe. 167k, stock, slightly messed up fender. Done a couple things to it so far. I guess I also have a question. I have an intermittent abs/parking light. Sometimes comes on quickly, sometimes I can drive for 2 hours without it coming on. When it's on the abs doesn't work. The other issue I'm having is the torque converter won't lock under 60 mph. It fluctuates about 200 rpm up and down at a steady pace. I hooked a scanner up and there's nothing showing up weird/wrong in the transmission. Any ideas?

I'm not extremely knowledgeable but I'm having a wheel bearing installed tomorrow and the wheel bearing has an abs wire connected to it that connects somewhere.

Could it be possible that the wire from your wheel bearing is not connected to wherever it is suppose to be connected?

Maybe someone can educate us both a little on that?

First if your scanner does not have ABS on it, you are not going to be able to pull ABS codes. Take it to Autozone, or one of those guys, they have ABS on it. Also, you are pulling from different modules or computers, so your scanner has to have that ability. Most out there only pull form Body Control Module. You have to buy up to include ABS, TPM, and so on.

Secondly, how do you know your Torque convertor won't lock? These come with Limited slip. If you are lucky, they will last about 60k before they need a rebuild kit. You ask many questions, but you give so little details....

It was a snap on modis scanner (not sure how to spell). The abs code was brake light switch intermittent failure. And I know the torque converter doesn't stay locked because the tach revs up and down 100-200 rpm while steady on the throttle. Its locking and unlocking. It stops revving up and down once I go over 60. I was told I should try cleaning the positive terminal on the abs module but that didn't work. I guess next step is the sensor on the brake pedal

Your torque converter unlocks when the brake pedal is pressed. You dont want your torque converter engaged waiting at a stop light. Its the equivalent of mashing the throttle and brakes and see which one wins. The torque converter is disengaged via a solenoid in your transmission. This solenoid is engaged when the brake is pressed. Sounds like you have a intermittent brake switch which would cause the torque converter to lock/unlock everytime the electrical fault of the brake switch shows up. Contacts of the switch are probably worn out or burnt(electrically) Easy fix! It no work right! Replace it.

Sounds like Rockola1971 may have solved both problems for you. The lockup converter speed will vary depending on how heavy your foot is. Mine will usually drop in @ around 50 mph. JMHO and good luck.

I'm hoping so. But I hate loading up the parts cannon if I can diagnose it and replace only one thing

Yeah but normal in town driving, just maintaining speed it shouldn't jump up and down like it does. Believe me I have a heavy foot too sometimes I forget I have a v8 (my hoe is my first)

Didnt the snap on scanner give you an abs code for brake switch intermittent failure? Its already been diagnosed, the ABS computer did it for you. I reckon it could be a pushed pin in the connector, wiring harness defect but odds are its just normal wear and tear on the brake switch. How are you going to catch a intermittent problem with a multimeter? Think you can fit someone under your dash while you are driving and taking measurements when you yell "hey, its doing that thing again!"? The brake switch isnt expensive. Replace it and rule it out. Keep slipping that converter like you are and your parts cannon will be buying a converter isntead of just a brake switch!
