New Tranny, First problem with rebuild

Hey whats up guys, I rebuilt my transmission a few months ago and have put several hundred miles on it now it's been rock solid. Feels way more firm and shifts better than it ever did before but Ive got a problem now. A week ago I noticed when in reverse it felt like it kept stumbling or stuttered in reverse and didnt always feel firm, but now it won't go into reverse at all. When reverse is engaged the rpms drop slightly and it budges for a second but then the rpms jump with no movement but I can definitely hear a whirring noise that isnt there when reved in neutral. Also the rpms drop faster when in reverse than neutral. Any ideas whats going on? The forward gears all work fine and its good otherwise. I need to get this fixed so as to not cause any damage. And I kinda need reverse. haha :help:

Also, The TC that came with my tranny kit was shipped wrong and I ended up with a high stall TC that I will soon be changing out anyways for the stock stall TC so I will have to drop it again anyways if you think it's an internal issue.. Thank you!

Yes I tore it apart myself and rebuilt it along side an old mechanic at the local tranny shop. No mods but we cleaned the valve body out thoroughly

sounds as if you have a pressure leak in the reverse apply circuit or you have burned out the clutches or broke the piston of the reverse input or lo/reverse clutch. specifically to the revers input clutch you can have porosity in the piston, excessive clutch plate travel, clutch plate retaining ring out of groove, return spring assembly retaining ring out of groove or the belleville plate installed incorrectly. porosity in the piston can also happen to the lo/reverse clutch. since it seems to build up on you then fail i think you have a damaged piston and/or clutch plates in one of those components. if you put it in manually forced first and it holds strong in acceleration and deceleration then you probably just eliminated the lo/reverse assembly as the issue if not then you just narrowed it down to that.

Ok so I drove it around a tried a few things and definitely got some results but its a little confusing to bear with me. When placed in drive and driven around its perfect, shifts through all the gears and back to first gear when at a stop. When placed in manual 1st at stop it stumbles around and I can hear some strange clicking and and clanging from the tranny, it'll accelerate but something definitely isn't right. And when in manual second it won't shift back to first when coming to a stop and I can hear the same whirring noise when I go and it's still in second gear as when I try to go in reverse. But in manual 3rd and regular drive everything is perfect, in shifts to first like its supposed to everytime and there's no stumbling or noise at stop and it accelerates and shifts like its supposed to

Yea I knew that was coming, oh joyy. That's the most likely culprit for the whole problem? And could it have caused any other damage to anything?

I bet you tore one of those seals putting it in, I did on my first rebuild but I caught it when I did the air check. You really need a seal installer tool, either buy one or make one and use shit tons of lube on it to make sure it doesn't tear or fold back on itself.

There is a shift kit mod in most of the shift kits for this tranny that has a small hole added into the face of the piston, that is supposed to bleed off some pressure and help shifting into and out of low and reverse, you may want to look into a kit since you gotta tear it down again ...

hard parts no, clutch frictions and steels yes. greatest thing about it, it is in the very back of the case tunnel so every thing needs to come out.
