Hey guys, im a new owner of a 96 yukon 4x4.

My question is (plz dont lough): if im interested in removing the crappy OBS console and fixing a full length ( from dash to front seats) NBS console, would the 4x4 shifter be in the way?

And if so what consols can i fix there instead of the original one. Any solution would be much appreciated.

It will be in the way but perhaps to can modify and fab the console to work around. You are just a bit out of luck as the push button control was available in '96 and would allow you to put a full length unit in. Must have been specifically order with a floor shifter which you could do up to '98-'99 if you really wanted it over the standard featured push button units.

welcome and there are tons of posts on different consoles in the obs tahoe, I changed mine to a console out of a 99 ford expedition.

and here I changed the cup holder part from the expedition to a navigator and wrapped the wood trim.

and now I am overlaying real carbon fiber instead of using the vinyl. pics will come later for that! but with the floor shifter I think that would make it hard but with the right tools anything can be made to fit!:superhack:

push button started in 1996. if you had the floor shifter then or later it was specifically requested when ordering. it can be done but will get expensive and requires some serious rewiring of the vehicle powertrain and chassis wiring.

Now you guys made me start thinking of going custom :/... I really liked the looks of those NBS, denali/escalade, expidition consoles... I might get a full bench off of a sierra or silverado the later models the ones with the center consoles that could be lifted and becomes a center seat. Ill be posting pictures if i get this done ;)... Thanks guys for the help much appreciation ;)

I did some tinkering in the junkyard the other day, and I think I may have found a way to make the Denali full length console fit with the floor shifter...I now have something to try sometime this week...

You could also try something out like the jeeps have with there center consoles with the 4x4 lever off to the side of the shifter. You could get a NBS console and fiberglass a kind of hole into the side of the console and make it work with your floor shifter. Anything can be done, just gotta fabricate and take some time.
