Im not sure about any of the newer SUV's, I have old stuff. But I'm sure the ones with the 2nd row captains chairs are more comfortable. As far as cargo space I look for as much room as I can get with the 3rd row up and I definitely have more cargo space i my 97 Suburban over my 04 Suburban. Both Subs have 60/40 split 2nd row that fold flat and 3rd row is one piece that you have to remove to get the flat floor. I have have filled them both with the floor flat and there is room but to be honest if have something big i just use my truck or trailer.
Although not as heartbreaking as I initially thought, even the NNBS trucks don’t beat the cargo space of NBS trucks, which have maximum vertical room, as well as completely flat surface all the way to the back of the front seats.

Even though there is an option to fold down and stack on top of the seats in a GMT900, third row is quick-release removable as well, ya?
