Hi,

I do have a 2002 yukon (slt 5.3l). Sometimes - 3 times this week - it does not start (no cranking no nothing just a click and the dashboard goes off).

It eventually starts by trying over and over.
The security light is off, the battery tested ok (650 cranking amps).
Any ideas ?

Thanks !

sounds like a bad ground or possibly your ignition switch going bad? a sticky starter relay might be a cheap fix as well

Interesting post. I'm having the same issue. What I did today to see if its the problem is fixed is to clean the battery connection.

One thing that seems to get the truck started is hooking up my jumper cables and touching the ends to get and getting a spark. Otherwise waiting about 3 minutes and the truck starts up again.
The other cause I believe might be the issue is a faulty ignition. I guess we;ll see what happens in a few days.

I had the same issue with my 2002 with 5.3....it was the Ignition Relay. It is located in the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side fender. I changed this relay and it hasnt happend in the last 3 months.

Thats great to know. I was about to start to get a bit more aggressive with the troubleshooting on this issue.

Let me ask you, do you remember how much a new relay switch cost you??

Thanks for chipping in on this.

I think it was a little less than 20.00 dollars

I called my dealer yesterday. There's a couple of relays in the fuse box and they control a couple of different things like the horn. It cost about $9.00.

He said the other cause of this might be the pass lock sensor on the ignition.

So if the relay doesn't do it, then it's on the the pass lock.

Again thanks for the info.

No problem I hope it works for you. FYI I bought the relay kept it in my console and waited untill it wouldn't start and then changed it out and it started right up and hasn't done it since... approx 3 months. Doing it that way I had instant confirmation that the relay was the problem. I was also told that with a faulty pass lock the security light will flash when you try to start it....mine wasnt flashing when the no start would happen. This info was what a couple of coworkers told me so take it for what it's worth.

Hey DND,
The dealer said there's more than one of those relays in the fuse box so I'll have to track down the one for the ingnition. I think that's a good idea how you did it.

Also, thanks for that security light info, I did not know that and the dealer never said anything. That should pretty much nail the issue to the relay. Either way I'll make sure to post an update to future readers.

Again thanks a lot this has really helped. I had all kinds of bad thoughts going through my head followed by $$$ signs!!!
