No heat in 2007 Denali (kid said car was overheating and took off/moved a hose to "fix")

I will take some pics when I get home today. I am guessing I should see the tubes in a "C" shape instead of going straight back to near the dash.

I'm guessing all I would need is to replace both the inlet and the outlet hose and the heater core as well?

Is it possible to just replace the 2 hoses and add some Blue Devil Pour N Go Head Gasket Sealer or Bar's Leaks Head Gasket Fix / Bar's Leak Head Seal Blown Head Gasket Repair?

into the radiator??

Stop leak is the kind of (non) repair people do when they’re preparing to trade or sell it to an unsuspecting buyer.

Replacing the heater core in one of these is probably not a beginner level job IMO. The entire dash comes out. Unless she’s lucky and it is the rear heater core. That one is not so bad. If she’s less lucky they are both equally corroded and one has failed and the other soon will.

I recommend professional assistance, or you could end up being the new ‘owner‘ of a growing and expensive problem. Sounds like her son (?) did a reasonable field patch to keep it on the road.

I doubt it is the core. Probably one of the plastic fittings hooking the hoses to it failed.

Does the engine run ok? Is it full of coolant? Does the front heater work? If so he bypassed the rear system. Looped the hoses . You will have to find it and undo what hes done. Fill and pressure test to find leaks. If its running normally and full of coolant He did a great job patching a problem. You wont know unless he shows you if you cant figure it out. Ask if water was added. If you can't..have the coolant tested!!! Fixin to get Cold!

Maybe... just maybe, you might grab this little guy by the hand, take him to the front of the vehicle, pop the hood, and get him to specifically “show you” and explain exactly WTF he did.

Otherwise, we are all just “guessing” as to what he did... just thinkin out loud here
