No Parking Brake

Hi guys, really need some help. Struggling quite a bit here with parking brake set up. Need to get working for boat ramp, and other hills. Its getting difficult to get out of park at times!

2002 Suburban. Four wheels discs.

Parking brake will not grab enough.

I put on new shoes, adjusted shoe to just fit inside rotor.

I removed intermediate and left and rear. cables and compared to new one to check length? Is it possible for them to stretch? Im not sure so I compared them against new ones. They seem fine. Perhaps the front cable is the issue? I did not remove it...

My equalizer nut is bottomed out.

There is actuation at the brake.

I applied the parking brake three times as to self adjust? Barely did anything.

Is there an adjustment at the pedal? Some kind of reset for the self adjust?

Not sure what to do! Spent soo much time on it already!! :banghead::banghead: New shoes $100.00. Don't want waste them. I have new cables but didn't put on as the current ones seem fine.

The parking brake shoe after installation may be installed a little off-center, which will cause the rotor to rub when it is installed. Remove the wheel, and caliper/caliper bracket again. As you start to remove the rotor inspect the gap between the shoe and the inside of the rotor. There should be an equal gap on both sides. Tighten the adjustor until a very slight drag is felt when installing the rotor.

Reinstall the rotors only using one lug nut. Test the parking brake pedal.

If all else fails, remove the nut on the threaded rod at the bracket where two cables join to one. Buy some slightly over-sized nuts that will slip on (not thread on) that threaded rod like a spacer. Install enough spacer nuts to reposition the adjusting nut out near the end of the threaded rod. You may need up to 2" worth of nuts. Re-install the adjusting nut and tighten as needed.

Even though you have actuation at the parking bake shoe, they may still be partially seized. I would take it apart again, loosen the parking brake equalizer and temporarily disconnect the rear cables. This will allow you to remove the actuators and parking brake adjusters. Now you can clean it all up, lube it, and re-install. To make sure the actuator is engaged properly, once the shoes are installed, use a lever to press in on the acuator a little. It may pop into place. Then adjust the brakes as Larry above said.
