You really shouldn't be towing in overdrive ...

I never do because it doesnt pull shit in overdrive but I used to try to get it to pull in it because I thought that it was another gear. Now that I know its not Ill just leave it in third. When im towing in town.

Wait. I think this should be clarified a little bit more. I tow my little 4x5 utility trailer, or my snowmachine trailer loaded with two sleds in it, or even my car carrier empty in OD. It's the big heavy stuff that I tow around in third. My rule of thumb is if you need to use your trailer brakes, then use third. If not, then your ok with OD. And I use that rule of thumb when towing in town or HWY, it doesn't really matter.

I CAN tow a 6x8 trailer with 2 quads on it in OD but I have to baby the shit out of it to keep her from shifting all around like crazy. But when Im towing our 16' trailer fully loaded with four quads and a big tool box then its definitely 3rd gear. haha.

I rebuilt my tranny about 3months ago and around town it shifts perfect but lets say i go down the highway at 70-80mph for 10min and then come to a red light...whenever i start off from a dead stop the tranny shifts hard...could that be the converter??? I didnt replace the converter and hearing yall talk about the converter locking up makes me wonder if mines not sticking???

What do Ya'll think???

Did you rebuild your valve body too? Sounds like a code P1870 (Transmission Component Slippage). Mine does the same thing...no rebuild here, though.

I think using a used converter with a rebuilt tranny is a bad idea ...
