I have no idea when you are to use 4x4 or the auto4wd function. The last suv I had was a full-time awd Durango and before I owned all 2wd trucks. Crap weather is coming this way soon and I wanted to know the proper way to engage and use the 4wd functions. I had read that the auto function can do damage to the t-case but this damm thing gets squirrely big time in the rain and I can only imagine how it handles in snow. Can the 4hi be used in the rain and not dry or what? TIA!

Auto 4wd usualy puts the front wheels in motion when the back breaks traction. So leave it in that setting if you are in coditions where you think 4wd might help at certian times. If you are in snow or a situation where you know you will need 4wd just put it in 4hi. Do not run 4hi in just rain.

thanks for that. should the truck be stopped when switching from 2wd to auto or can it be done while moving do you know? I figured since the trans must in neutral for 4lo vs 4hi but I wasnt sure if the same held true for the auto function.
