The back two O2 sensors are the most important (they do more than check for cats - they measure how well the cats are working). I would replace those first, as they are the most likely to cause your O2 sensor issues.
Nope...they are there to check for catalytic efficiency. The pre cat sensors regulate air/fuel mix & tuning. All 4 are important if you have cats and the pre cat ones do more work keeping air/fuel correct.

Sorry to hear about your seizrures. It looks like a straight forward repair but it seems when I think that something comes up and I end up making it a bigger job than it should be. I found the sensor and I just wanted to see if anyone had tips on making it as simple as possible.

Good point! I was thinking in terms of monitoring cat efficiency. Sorry about that OP.

See above (and thanks).

This past week my Check Engine Light came on for a bad upstream sensor which ARE the two most important. I did notice my truck was starting to run a little rough sitting at idle a week or so before the light came on. Can't wait to see if I can get a couple more MPG's after changing them out!

I had two massive (Grand Mal) seizures, so I can't drive anymore. Imagine how I felt about selling my truck (for only $6K)!

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. Have you been told what caused them? I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers bro. $6K......that had to hurt.

Thanks. I've been to two separate neurologists, and they have no idea what's causing them, but they're affecting my entire brain (worst case scenario I'm told). Selling the truck definitely hurt (especially at that cost), but I'm happy knowing my family is still taken care of. That's all that matters to me. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers!

Dam Chip I don't know you but we are all Tahoe/Yukon/Eskie fans and I am sorry to hear about the seizures you had and selling the truck I know it must've hurt to say goodbye to the hoe but as a former dialysis patient(got a new kidney not too long ago) I must say, keep your head up and at the end of the day you can always be thankful for the family and loved ones you have and our trucks are just transportation and materialism that wont last forever like true loved ones do, my prayers go out to you and yours that all will get 'greater later' man!

You have 4 o2 sensors. Your forward sensors are just after the manifold as each side comes down the side of the bell housing for the tranny , they are the ones that measure how good your truck is burning, then youll have two behind each of your cats, they measure if you have cats. The back two I wouldn't worry about.

I agree. Unless the rear after-cat sensors are throwing codes I wouldn't change them out. The front pre-cat sensors are what affect your fuel economy and driveability.

The other suggestion I have is if the plugs and wires haven't been changed I'd do those first if you don't have codes for the front sensors.

They can be hard or easy to change. Get an 02 Sensor Socket from the auto parts store. You might be able to get away without the special socket but they are worth the $10 you'll spend on one. Other than that, some penetrating oil on the threads overnight can help. Running the truck for 30 seconds to heat up the pipe may make removing them a little easier as well. I start out cold first and if I have difficulty I run the vehicle for a few seconds to heat up the exhaust and then usually have an easier time removing the sensor.
