im very interested in setting up a system to data log/ pull codes from my 1995 GMC Yukon and pretty much understand everything that is neccasary to make it happen.
1)get a chord to go from OBD port to USB
2)hook up to Laptop
3) install software to start logging..

the last step is the one im having trouble on... i know there are alot of software programs out there that are free and seem good but which one do you guys use/think is the best?

I'm using TTS Datamaster 0D version (cracked for unlimited logging sessions) and I have TunerRT Pro. They will both "log" TTS is more of a datalogging and troubleshooting software package, TunerRT is more of a real-time monitoring package with burning/editing and emulation abilities. That's probably where I will end up, running an emulation board with a notebook behind it.

I have a USB to OBD1 cable form ALDLCABLE.COM. I have an Asus EeePC that works fine for logging. I went thru a bunch of shit to get this to work, I should do a lil write up since it took me a few days of searching the internet to get this working ... alot of the stuff out there won't work and is out dated.

Interesting thought I had, that EeePC panel is about the size of a double din radio ... the keyboard is about the size of the mirror cover in the flip down sun visor .... I may get my hands on another one and set it up permanently in the truck. :D
