Kinda depends on what part of the country you are in. Also, I would want to know the manufacturer of the parts and the labor rate and book time they are saying it takes to do. Did you ask for a breakdown of all that?

The dealer shop rate on the Cayenne I sold was $250/hr. I sold the car once I started running up against things I could not do myself.
Was that shop rate in Vegas. Highest I have seen around here, Eugene, Or., is $190 at independent shops and $210 at dealers.

We could be making a killing pappi!
I recently had a well off American Legion friend of mine ask what a 2 bay shop would cosr ro set up. I told him that first you gotta find the bays, allow for buy or rent, utilities, insurance, lifts, equipment and licenses...
$400k. He about crapped his pants. Let alone the personal tool investment.

Not a chevy but my wife's VW Jetta needs new front brakes, and the dealer quoted me over $700. 00.. Rockauto has pads and rotors for $90.00 for both right and left needless to say I'll be doing a break job myself.

Be glad you aren't in need of generator service. Here in Chitcago-land rates are around $190 - 230 /hr. And......$2.50 - 4.00 per mile round-trip to your site. Skilled trades are where the money is now, and gonna be even more so in the future.

The auto shop rates are similar depending on area, clientele, brand, etc. But, based on the expenses attached to running a productive shop these days, it doesn't surprise me - still sucks though.
