Oil Cooler Block Off Gasket

I am diagnosing an oil leak on my 2007 5.3 (309K) and after reading some of the posts I am leaning toward the oil cooler block off, lots of oil around the filter. I am pretty sure is not the filter.

However, other than taking off the plate, is there a way to know beforehand if its the wide oval gasket or the two hole gasket?

Do yourself a favor and get the billet plate and gasket/seal kit and be done with it. The OE plate warps and hardly ever reseals correctly.

The 2 hole type of gasket is used if you have the 2 lines coming out and going to an oil cooler.

If you have no cooler then it's the oval gasket.

Yea, in the one I referenced, it shows a round o-ring but you just shove that o-ring in to the oval shaped slot on the back and tighten down and good to go. The billet plate does not warp.

One question, do you need to drain the oil out of the pan or can you just drop the filter and let it drain out?

You can change the blockoff without removing the filter or anything else. The oil level isn't that high, or at least shouldn't be!

No need to drain the pan. You will get the usual amount of oil that comes out from above the filter when changing the filter.

BTW, is this vehicle 2wd or 4wd?

If 4wd you will probably have to remove the front driveshaft U joint straps to be able to drom the shaft down a bit out of the way so you can get your hands up there.

If 2wd nevermind the above info, lol
