So I changed the oil and filter in my '05 Yukon (wife's really) and the store was out of literally every filter brand that would fit except STP. I didn't want to wait as she needed to drive it somewhere so I bought my very 1st STP Filter. Yesterday I noticed a drip mark on the driveway so I investigated. The filter has oil all over it and of course dripping. I always watch a new filter for a few minutes after installing one and this one did not leak. Is there anything near the filter that could leak? I know, I'm just tired and in panic mode but I've never in 45 yrs had a filter leak. I'll change it of course but what else can I or should I be looking for when it's off. I replaced a motor once and forgot the base on the filter mount once so it puked when I started it. But that was a Dodge. I'm hoping it is just a bad filter gasket. It's tight. Any Ideas?

Did you happen to notice if the gasket from the old filter came off with the old filter? They sometimes will stick to the pan and then when you put the new filter, you can’t get a good seal.

Yes, I always check that and I always pre fill the new filter as well as lightly lube the gasket. And I make sure the surface is clean before installing. I go hand tight then 1/2 to 3/4 turn past that.

lol, I did that once, long time I was piss ass broke but had managed to be able grab oil and filter to maintain my ride, changed the filter and filled her up, started it up and was going to take it around the block and son of a ***** as soon as I backed up enough to see the driveway low and behold a lake of oil! I was like WTF? and yep sure as shit when I took the filter back off there was the o-ring from the old one twisted together with the new one.

Yeah, know what you mean. One night my wife was wanting me to make supper for the family as she had a bunch of stuff going on so agreed but wanted to change the oil quick in her Yukon. It was like a NASCAR pit stop how fast I got it done because she was starting to get a little hot under the collar when I decided changing the oil was more important than getting the kids fed. Of course, that’s the one time I don’t check for the deal and just like you, buttoned everything up and started the vehicle up and was watching the oil pressure gauge and just as it started to rise, it bottomed out and I heard a loud splashing sound under the vehicle. That put my wife over the edge. She ordered pizza while I ran to an autozone that was open late as it was going on 9:00 and she needed the vehicle to go to work the next day. Grabbed another filter, 6qts of oil and a couple bags of oil dry to clean up the driveway.

Well guys I changed the filter and made triple sure there was NO "O" Ring or gasket. I also made sure the surface was super clean and wiped all the wet areas I could reach. Started it up and layed under it for a while looking for something to leak. Nothing. Took it for a test drive and parked it. Just now, 6 hrs later, I noticed a half dollar size drop on the pavement. I'm pretty upset and too tired to jack it up again now this late. I'm hoping it's just some oil that I didn't get wiped off. I looked at the block from top and bottom and can't see where it would leak from. Does the oil filter mount ever leak? Can it? I noticed when I had the filter off it looked like a large hex in the center of it.

So, surfing the old "interweb" I came across somone saying it could be that oil filter adapter pn 12552357. That's the round threaded fitting with the hex socket I noticed. The part the oil filter screws on to. Someone also pointed out there is a plate that's bolted on "around" that. Does anyone have any pictures of this plate?

Yes. From the videos I've spent the last hour watching that's one of the possibilities. The other is under the filter where it screws on. Looks like maybe 2 bolts hold that on over a round gasket. Sheesh, what a pain. Watched one guy remove the wheel to access the bolts on that blockoff plate with some long extensions.
