You can't go by looks and opinion. Go look at oil Analysis's people have had done for our motors or any for that matter with different kinds of oil. I run mob 1 3-3500 in my truck since its 160k and gets some fuel contamination. The oil does not sheer or loose viscosity or become to contaminated at that mileage so why go another 1000 and have that happen. Spending 26$ for 1 extra oil change a year isn't breaking the bank but it sure keeps things clean and well lubricated. Idk how much experience you have in the automotive field but there is a CLEAR difference in someone's motor that changes it at 3k vs 5k with or without synthetic. what scientists or chemists or engineers have you been getting your info from lol

That's basically what I said, except the part of the oil losing it's shear strength or viscosity or reaching the contamination threshold a mere 1,000 miles past 3-3,500.

I also never said I was an expert on it. I DID say what I was comfortable with doing, and that's running a quality non-synthetic for 5K-6K. This is based on my personal experiences with higher-mileage late-model engines and different oils and UOAs. You most certainly do not have to agree.

I feel that saying "there is a CLEAR difference in someone's motor that changes it at 3k vs 5k with or without synthetic" is far too broad of a statement. What type of motor? In what condition is this motor and it's supporting parts? How does this person use this motor? What all is this motor subjected to? My point is not to argue with whatever reports are posted on the internet but to share my personal opinions based on my experiences and research. You say you've seen and/or personally experienced and/or read about and/or heard about a clear difference in an 3K OCI versus a 5K OCI. If I cared to do the digging, I'm quite sure I could find just as much countering info to perpetuate this age-old battle. But, I myself am not a scientist, an engineer nor an expert so the info would be just that- reposted from somewhere on the internet from possibly credible but also possibly not-so-credible sources. How about you and yours?
