I have an Express 2500 cargo van for my business, but it's registered non commercial. If it was commercial, I wouls have to get it inspected.

I hate to seem like a know it all, but I also used to do MV inspections in Eatontown. As long as you don't have a check engine light or anything stored or pending, you'll pass inspection. Nothing else matters-broken windshield, no lights, no brakes--limo tinted windows--nothing. I had a guy once, no brakes, was actually metal on metal. He passed. No check engine light. We were taught in training that motor vehicle laws--for inspections--isn't state law. So you can pass and have a valid sticker but still get a ticket for improper or broken equipment. Makes no sense. That might change with the new Gov. if he gets an itch.
I guess its all in the person you get. Every time I'm dealing with legal issues and my rigs im always nice and a kiss ass. They make the choice to either ticket you. Tow You. Register your rig. I went to renew my tags and my name was spelt diffrent on my insurance card than it was on my DL. Guy questioned me about it and said They have to be the same. I just was nice and played stupid. I asked do just because some one across the us spelt my name wrong on my insurance I cant renew? He told me no. Then he said ok $125 get it fixed. Thanks and out the door I went.

Yeah, i pull it off the side windows, have it inspected, retint... haven’t been yanked yet. That law has been on the books for years tho @Sasquatch ,which im sure you know but now with new law, they involved inspection stations and cops can pull you just for tint now as opposed to secondary offense ya know?

I often ask people i see with dark tinted front windows and ask if the cops ticket them for it and i always get mixed reviews. They either get pulled over all the time or not at all. I`d love to get the fronts tinted but i`ve been pulled over twice in the last 12-15 years and i`d like it to stay that way lol.

Def does. Quick story: While driving my silver Chevy on rte 80, I was stopped by a trooper. He told me I had fictious plates, came back to a black Buick. I shocked him by admitting it. I did have insurance tho. Guess what happened? Once he saw I was wearing a uniform he let me go. It could've ended bad--towed, ticketed, fines etc. It all depends on who stops you.

man do i got cop storys lol the best is when they just unload on you yelling like mad, then let you go. my CDL lic saved me a lot. most cops dont want to mark up a clean cdl, unless you really deserve it.

then theres other times where i know im right and let them have it. and still get off.

like the time i was rolling up to a construction area, cops had a lanes blocked to one, and im in a loaded roll off, a sweet ass pete with straight pipes and of course a jake brake that i used all the time, cops stops be as im rolling by, so im on the jake again right to the stop, hes giving me crap about the loud noise, im like thats my brakes. look it up....hes still going on and on, truckers this and that, im like keep talking....his partner there grabbed him and pulled him away from me and waved me on, and i popped the jake at every shift just to be a dick on the way out....

but if they are writing tickets and i know i ****** up, i always say thank you lol

Its not really
The past couple of weeks I have seen plenty of vehicles in New Jersey [Bergen,Hudson and Passaic County] with around 20% or less tint on the front 2 windows. I thought maybe they finally changed the law but you Jersey guys say no. Guess the Leos have not caught up with them just yet.

I would not tint the full windshield either even though I would love to [with that nasty blazing burning sun in Miami] for the same reasons you said. Plus their are constant monsoons everyday from May-November.[/QUO

Its not really noticeable at night. Here is my driver window half way down. Driver is double 5% and windshield at 50% and well nothing. The only time I have really noticed the tint was at Sun down. Other is just out the front. Its 9:52 in Reno .

Once was for making an illegal turn, The sign was obstructed by a tree so the cop cut me a break and let me go.

The other was for speeding 83 in a 65. If i had only read the instructions on my new ****** 8500 X50 radar detector i would have known that the laser POP detector is turned off from the factory and needed to be turned on. That was a $300+ lesson learned but it has kept my record clean ever since.
