So I take my 06 in to Chevy for the 100,000 mile service. I've had the check engine light on for some time now but always knew it had to do with the fuel tank vent valve. Here's my question. Is that valve operated by a solenoid? I ask because I think Chevy may have pulled one on me. They wrote up that they pulled the code for the valve stuck open and then replaced the valve. Guess what? Still have the CEL. Why would they replace the vent valve but not the solenoid that operates it? I would think that the solenoid would be the first thing to check if the valve was sticking open.

From a tech. standpoint, I would think they would check for voltage to the solenoid first. Then solenoid(if voltage is present, and valve is still not operating correctly). Then the vent valve itself, or parts connecting it to the solenoid.
I'm not sure the procedure they used, or if they saw the vent valve open code, and just
replaced it based on past experiences.

It's hard to find honest , and reliable Automotive tech.'s these days.

Give them a chance to make it right, everyone makes mistakes. Even if your CEL was misdiagnosed, they should refund or apply money spent to actual repair. I think GM dealer work has a warranty, so if you are not satisfied call GM or take it to another dealer for corrective action.
Good luck, and no I am not a dealer employee/tech, I know a few; they are honest and good at what they do.
