I just replaced the vapor canister purge valve and cleared the codes. The same code came back. Do I need to replace the purge vent? This is the unit that sits near gas tank, whereas the part I have already replaced sits on top of engine. Any insight would be great!

I had a host of purge and vent issues on my 2004 Denali 6.0. I had the famous gas cap loose code. I found the purge vent valve you speak of (near or rear of the gas tank) was sticking open due to dusty conditions. I fully cleaned the valve (compressed air) and used 12volts to verify function before reinstall. The MIL went out after two starts. It seemed grit was preventing full closure. I subsequently replaced it (O'Reilly) for about $20. This was not the end of the problem as later had P0496 and replaced the purge valve on top of intake. That, plus the vent valve, plus the gas cap solved the unsecured gas cap issue. Good luck.

Too many variables on this one. You will need a scan tool that can provide EVAP data like Fuel tank pressure and a smoke machine to check for leaks. The most common issue with that code is a plugged up charcoal canister due to over fueling but one of may other issues can also cause the code.

Here's some info:
  • An intermittent condition could be caused by a damaged EVAP vent housing, a temporary blockage at the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve inlet, or a pinched vent hose. A blockage in the vent system will also cause a poor fuel fill problem.
  • An EVAP canister, vent hose, or vent solenoid valve that has restricted flow may cause this DTC to set. Using a purge solenoid valve command with a scan tool will allow vacuum to be applied to the system instead of pressure. With the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve open and the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve commanded to 100 percent, vacuum should not increase to more than 9 inches H2O.
