Hi!

About 6 months ago, I purchased a 2012 Yukon XL with a 1 year old, ~15K mile 6.2 Jasper engine installed, its been solid, always 40 psi cold, 20 psi warm at idle. Recently, I noticed the oil pressure dipping below 40/20 psi at idle, with a slight dip in RPM's occasionally. Did a full synthetic oil change around 3K interval out of precaution, but no changes.

Yesterday, the oil pressure was pegged at 80psi and then dropped to 0 and threw a CEL with code P0523. Oil pressure sensor was not included with the motor and isn't covered by the warranty so I went to DIY.

Is there a special trick to unclip the plug? I pulled up on the white tab and tried to squeeze the blue to no avail. I was hoping to avoid pulling the intake, but I will if that's what it comes to.

Attached pictures of oil pressure at the time of the oil change. IF the oil pressure reads under 40/20 and the stumble is still present after sensor and filter replacement, is the pick up tube o-ring likely the next culprit?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

I cannot personally assist you with removing the electrical connector to the oil pressure sensor, as I have not done that yet, but other members of this Forum much more knowledgeable than me in this area will chime in. @Doubeleive @swathdiver

Also, what is your oil pressure at 2000 rpms?

A healthy oiling system will be in the 20s at idle once warmed up and 38 psi underway with an aluminum engine and warmed up. Less is acceptable, 6 psi per 1000 rpms if memory serves.

I don't bother torturing myself by trying to replace the sensor without pulling the intake. We pull the intake and clean it, the throttle body and inspect the intake gaskets while it's all apart. Takes an extra 15 minutes and don't need special sockets to loosen/tighten the sensor.

Don't forget to replace the screen underneath.

you need to pull the white lock tab up and then squeeze the black tab under it, the blue colored part has nothing to do with releasing it.

Back in business! Thank you for the help!

Side note- how important is that white retaining clip? It must have fallen off while the sensor was unclipped, as I was stubborn and decided not to remove the intake.

It’s just a safety clip, it only keeps you from being able to squeeze the release. The connector still clips on securely.
