Well, it sure does look purty!
On my Yukon, I was starting to get cancer behind each wheel. I was quoted $3500 to do below the belt line, and $5000 for the whole truck. I declined.
Over this summer on nice low humidity, sunny days, I used an electric 4" round metal wire brush to sand off the loose, flaky cancer, and then used an 6" air sander on 320 to grind to bare metal. Electric orbital on progressive higher grit to blend in the lines. Shot it with self-etching primer, then two coats of primer. Then three coats of color match base paint, and finally four coats of clear.
I only did one or two spots a day, all those coats were spread out over 12 hours. I obviously ran out of summer, but I only have my driver's door left to do. The parts where I did do though, made a world of difference. This was only my second time attempting a project tlike this ever, and my first one didn't turn out so well. But I read alot on this forum.
And I agree with what you said, 'you get what you pay for', but I didn't want the truck to continue to further get eaten by cancer, and I am not a money tree (although if you ask my wife...).
I'm under no illusions about how long this will last. I would be happy to get two years out of my DIY job, if that. Salt is not used sparingly up here.
That being said, if you have the $$, get it done by a professional. Not the $1200-$1500 type of so-called professional, but the $4000-$5000 kind. I don't know if $7000 would be worth it. Seems kinda steep.
