painting the hoe! HELP!!!

gunna paint the hoe... and i need some help, atomic where u at lol
and anyother paint people!!
i have a rust spot forming a little one but i dont want it to spread and my ood is turning white, like oxidation?? anyways
i wanna get the truck sanded down and primer flat black for now to get me thro the summer, till i can get a good pro paint job, pluss my money is wrapped up in this new engine build

so whats a good way to sand or prep for paint?
i wanna do a good job, but moneys kinda tight
i was thinking ither spray it a paint gun and my compressor,
or flat black primer in cans???
help!! ive never tasked painting befor...

You could always use a rust inhibitor if the rust spot is not to noticable. The Inhibitor will stop the rust where it is. And you think you got rust? Come to Massachusetts=hell

Otherwise, Get the color code for your truck. Its in the glove box, it shoud start with an H and then be numbers or something. Then either go to duplicolors website and find out what can of paint it would be from them. I dont recommend using duplicolor. The two colors i have tried have been way off. It sucks, have Napa or an auto store mix you a paint , with the hardener and shit. It will be like $70-$100 Then spray it with your gun.

As for sanding. Sand it down to bare metal. get the edges on the rust spot smooth. Bondo it lightly, and sand again till smooth. Prime it good, fill small pin holes. If you get a one step paint from Napa you wont have to put a clear coat on.

remember, primer will work for a short time, but if you do get down in the painter areas to metal to do any fixes, it may not be something you want to have on for extended amount of time. Primer is a short term hold, but I'd get flat black paint, or something to hold it on the body if you plan to drive for a while.

just use regular sand paper from like home depot? what grit..?
its gunna be a weekend project start to finish- i need to do somehting
the truck has spots that really buggs me and the hood is getting worse, and yes im sure its rust right under the driverside big window after the driver door
right where all the water runs when it rains or i was it...

i want to keep the truck a flat black...

so if i sand it down to metal then fondo a few dents
smooth it in and then spray flat black primer
then a flat paint??

yes, you want a sealer, to seal in the flat black...primer will fade/wash away/ possibly add surface rust.

could i clear the flat primer? or is there something i can put on the primer to seal it?

you could clear over the primer....just to seal it, but I'm not 100% on adding anything to the primer direct. Primer it, and just shoort a flat sealer/finish over it.

ok thanks sounds good, im gunna start this project soon, im awaiting my door popper actuators to come in, then the painting begins..
