Long time lurker here.

I have finally decided to pass the Yukon to my 16 year old this August. My father-n-law bought her new and I then bought her in 2002. She was my daily driver for several years.

Anyway it's time for a make-over. Last year I put a new 5.7 engine in her and the year before that she got a new transmission. Among other new parts the Yukon is a solid truck with 197k miles. However it lacks that "COOL" factor. So the redneck in me is about to come out, on a tight budget, and try to make this a sweet ride for a 16 year old Southern Boy.

Here are a couple of pictures of what we are starting with:

She is going to the shop on Monday to get tires, rims and a lift.
Can not wait to see how she is gonna look!

Lucky son. When I was 16 I got a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and that was my baby charcoal gray and I did a lot of work to her. First I lifted the suspension in the back giving it a 5" lift and I bout new rims and bigger tires in the back and smaller in the front. Tinted the windows. Put a Lebra on because that was big in the 90's. I put my heart and soul in that car cutting corners by bartering to get the parts I needed. I got a 455 Rocket and rebuilt that for 10 months right after school and when I got into shop we brought it in there. Got that bad boy engine rebuilt. We had to change the butt load in the engine bay needing to pull out the AC and reroute Finally got the mounts welded in its spot and dropped that along with the tranny for it. Once we got it all hooked up we primed it and I though shit this wont work. Fired right up. I had to buy a hood scoop for this engine. cut a hole in the hood and installed the hood and painted in the factory gray. Later after I got it out I layed out the stripes I want to add on the hood for stripes. I scuffed the hood and painted the stripes black. I bought the car for $1500, motor rebuild and install was $2000, the engine alone was $1800 and the school did the work to help people get knowledge in car rebuilds. I showed my Dad my car for the first time of having in the school and the Black paint stripes/ I could tell he was amazed because I don't think he thought I was capable of doing anything let alone painting my hood alone. So that made me feel real good having my Dad look at me like he was proud. Actually that meant everything to me. I try to get my dads approval and happiness with what I did.

Here is a list of things we are doing immediately:
Polished up the headlights and thought they came out rather nice. I bought a Turtle Wax polishing kit for @$9 at Pep Boys. (see picture below)
Also bought some Plasti Dip and blacked out the grill. Makes the front "pop" a little more.
Had the Yakima Roof rack in the garage and slapped it on for future use.

My son thinks all I am doing is putting wheels and tires on but here is the whole list of things happening this week:
6" Rough Country suspension lift
Rough Country Steering Stabilizer
Pro-Comp Xtreme Rims (flat matte black) *sons choice
Pro-Comp Xtreme A/T LT305/65R17E tires
Flowmaster dual exhaust

Here is the headlights 1 before and 1 after polishing:
