I've been using the Scosche magnet system with some success. The metal plate rides well inside the Apple leather case, and I have the magnets stuck around in various places where it's handy.

I ordered a lightning mini dock with the intent of modifying its base so it moulded down into the flip-open tray further forward from the center console cup holders. The place with the USB connector anyway... Haven't gotten around to messing with it, but that's where I'd like the phone. Just standing there, lean against the flip-up compartment cover.

Don't want it taking up knee room to the left of the console

I too have been using ProClip for years - spendy but a great product. For a 2015i Denali they are researching a mounting bracket for the "flat" spot to the left of the drivers center air vent. It will be a tight fit because they must avoid the screen which moves up and down and the gear shift lever. Their existing mount for the left or right side of the center console won't work - my GPS is too wide. And it is too far from line of sight while driving. Keeping my fingers crossed - many of us have the same need.

did they give you an idea of an ETA for when? or how far along they are?

I've been using the Tetrax Fixway magnet holder. I'm not wild about their new design but you can still find the Fixway out there. A small metal plate sticks on to the back of your device and a small mounting plate sticks to your dash. The removable magnetic mount goes on the plate and the device goes on the mount. It's a very strong mount and holds our iPhone 6+ easily. I love it because it's not too bulky.
