Doesn't matter how good the finish coat- paint is ( solvent-based or latex- based )...

If it doesn't have a good prepped surface to attach to, it is guaranteed to peel off / fail.
Same defect I had with my '88 GMC truck.... A nice metalflake brown, but the clear coat failed due to same GM application ( the clear lifted )

Don't blame the sun/heat for the hood & roof failing..... The sides are failing also, but the weather 'hurried up' the top surfaces.

Wasn't it also because they went to water based paint? I had a beautiful 91 S10 sport that was an electric blue metallic that the paint started to peel in sheets. Started on the hood, then the roof started. Traded it in for a ferd POS.
Cannot recall the actual year GMC, but want to say right around that 88-92 time frame? Then I think she went with the Ford Exploder. Mom loved it...me not so much. And she had a Trailblazer and moved on to a Honda Pilot which she has only 48k on since 2009.

Traded it for the then new body style, 94 Explorer. Had the 4.0 anemic 6 cyl in it. Got it with 14 miles on it. For some odd reason the stock radios kept burning out. Biggest POS EVER! Thank God the ex pos wife got the pos ferd. Perfect together lol.

I had one of those, too, before the Hoe came to live here. '94, 4.0 pushrod V6, Eddie Bauer. It wasn't too bad but had a hard time pulling a small camper. It's one of the reasons I invited the Hoe to come live with me. ;)

'94 was the last year of the first gen body style.

I drove a boss's '87 S10 Blazer from So Cal to Lake Havasu, Az. for a boat race.....
Oh....My....God...... That piece of crap was so gutless.... I was driving on a long-flat dessert hwy, and I kept the gas peddle in "up-hill" mode the whole way !!

Was it the 4.3 or the 2.8? Talk about a DOG, I had a 2.8. Total POS.

But the 4.3 in my Caprice rolled pretty good down the highway.
