Just to get a mark on what "light coat" indicates... Starting from scratch, would a light coat be the moment that no red is visible at all? Then just repeat every 5-10 minutes for 3-5 times?

No I do a spray over of two passes . kinda goes along the lines of You can always add more but can't take away

Nice video. Was my way of taping not-so-necessary? Yates, I see what you mean now by not having to cover the chrome. If I use a razor, I can just cut the dip between the chrome and red. That'll speed up the taping process for sure.

You shouldn't have to use a blade to trim around the chrome part and the letters. I just took the emblem off the grille and sprayed they whole thing with about 5 coats. After about 30 min after my last coat, I just peeled it off the chrome part. The gaps between the chrome frame gave it a cut. Like posted above, do light coats and then get progressively heavier. Spray from about 6-8" away, any further you'll get rough texture

Do not worry about covering in the first coat, do at least 5 coats.

I've dipped many things on my tahoe...like the others said, 5-6 coats total. lightly spray. and do not touch the dip when wet. when your ready to peel the tape, do another coat and right after your done spraying...pull the tape off (while the last coat is still wet). another method is taking a razorblade/tooth pick to remove the unwanted.

Thank you all so much for the help. With the overcast shade I went ahead and redid the dip this afternoon, and it couldn't have gone much better! I cleaned and taped the same, layered lightly as directed and went to 6 layers. I razored some of the edges where I felt there may be an issue, and then pulled the tape directly away from the dip that I want to stay. If some dip started pulling instead of peeling, I would just stop and cut it with the razor. Took about 5 minutes to get the tape off, but it was worth it. Patience IS a virtue!

I know! I didn't think it would turn out that good, I'm very happy with it. Hope it stays on for as long as y'alls have.

Real quick, how do you go about cleaning it? I want to make sure the chrome remains shiny, and keep bugs/dust off the dip. Will a normal hand/sponge wash hurt? If not, is there a minimum time I should wait before washing (other than a few hours for drying)?
