ok T Y F gurus i have a question. i have an 04 yukon slt 5.3l with 139k on the clock. i have had it a bit over a year. since i have owned it i have been using 5w30 mobile 1 for peace of mind, change oil every 2500-2900 miles. well this past may i changed the oil and have been using the AC a whole lot more than last year and truck idled alot more this summer than before and i drove it a little more. well i went to check fluids and it was like a qt low is this normal should i worry and after a long day of ac i would notice a big water puddle under the truck to where people would ask if i was leaking anything

My 05 yukon only had 60xxx on the clock and it barely uses any oil. I use royal purple 5w 30 and change it at 5k intervals.

But in reading many oil consumption threads here, Using one quart between oil changes on higher mileage engines seems to be normal.

The puddle of water is condensation from using the A/C. It`s completely normal.

Nope. It shouldn't. I'd try changing to a high mileage oil, preferably Valvoline MaxLife. I've heard nothing but good things about it. I've also switched to it and my oil consumption problem seems to have reduced.

As for the AC, it's just condensation. Nothing to worry about for now.

Hmmmm....I'm sure he means Good things...

I second what Domin8 says. No reason to believe oil consumption is being caused by running the A/C or idling. Higher mileage engines have a tendency to "sweat" a little more oil than lower mileage vehicles due to worn parts and a host of other issues. Give the higher mileage oil a shot (even though it costs a little more). You'll actually save money in the long run by avoiding the extra quart in between changes.

GL!

I would use 5w30 in the winter since it has less viscosity, but you want more viscosity in the summer because the oil will get thin as it gets hot. I even started hearing a knock when I changed to 5w30 and it went away when I switched over to 10w40. On my SS camaro I use 20w50.

my 2 cents..

04 with 130k mostly all highway miles. I switched the hoe to Mobil1 when she had idk like 12 to 15,000 miles on her & used ever since. oil & filter changes between 3 to 4,000 miles & so far no oil loss problem.
If you see no oil leaks or signs of seepage spread under your ride.
HAve you replace sparkplugs lately? If so did you see oil on the sparkplugs? If so could be a sign of piston rings going out. Look for bluish smoke from exhaust. check cooling system for oil.
I'd get it checked out. Maybe a compression test
