I'm refurbing my 99 C2500 Burb, 4L80, 4.10 14 bolt. Right now the driveline is out for a complete refresh, and other mods will be forthcoming. It will be a family vacation vehicle, eventually pulling a fairly heavy TT.

One mod I'm looking into is adding a mechanical overdrive to give the 4L80 more ratios. However, at roughly $3k, that's a lot of cash. The other side is doing a full 383 build for about the same cash (.30 over, HT pistons, upgraded rods, marine intake, cam, rockers, springs, aluminum heads built by a local shop, etc; assembling myself). Figuring more power can overcome a lack of trans ratios. Altos will go into the trans at that point.

This is a pole, not asking opinions about if I should/should not do this, drop in a 454/LS, 6L or anything of the sort. I'm asking opinions of these 2 specific items, as 1 will eventually makes its way into the Burb.

Build the 383, such that it makes gobs of torque from off idle to 5000.
