Does it get worse when turning to the right? it might be wheel bearings if you are in 2WD mode. If you are in 4wd mode, you might be getting binding. Do you feel it through the stearing wheel? Could be the intermediate steering shaft but sounds worse than that. Do a search on wheel bearings and you get alot of info on this site.

get on the brakes next time you go over some bumps, see if the rattling goes away, then its brake pads. also the ''pop'' you are hearing may be the crossmenber that goes between the lower a-arms.

Mines a 2wd, no cant feel it through the steering wheel, it when i turn right the left wheel gets side load, and then POP, it has progressivly gotten worse, and i live on a gravel road, when i go over washboards, is when i get the rattling, i have been under my truck many time, trying to shake anything, i have tried leaving it on the ground, jacking it up, everything...havent figured it out yet. the rattling is almost like a shock stem rattling around in the hole, but i have check everything in the front, nothing moves...

A crude wheel bearing check...jack up front one side at a time. On the lifted wheel, push/pull at 1200 and 600 clock positions, then at 300 and 900 positions, checking for play, turn the wheel and no binding/popping noises. If there is noise, then it's likely your wheel bearing. If negative, it still MIGHT be wheel bearing. Others may have better suggestions on this. Good luck. Don't know if you did this specific series of tests but you mentioned oinly jacking it up...sorry if you already know this and done it.
