Possible to force sounds from phone to NOT come out of the car speakers when CarPlay is enabled?

Before we all assume anything, are you connecting wired CarPlay, or wireless, or just as a Bluetooth cell/audio device.

Are you actually using car play, or are you using Bluetooth audio? If you just have your phone connected using Bluetooth (like the head unit is a Bluetooth speaker) you may be having the issue you describe. If, you are using Car Play (like you get an iPhone screen showing on your infotainment head unit), you may get visual notifications, but shouldn’t get audible ones while connected that way.

P.S. yes, I know CarPlay uses Bluetooth communication when connected wirelessly.

I think anything that plays a sound online when you open it is going to play a sound unless you mute it
on my android most things are muted by default and only play a sound when I hit the speaker button, except Instagram which is the opposite it will play a sound and then has to be muted each time it is closed and reopened.
Seems to be the case. Maybe with future updates, they'll have a way to control this

have you switched it to silent using the side button? go into notifications in settings and cancel all notifications. that, along with the switch on the side keeps my phone silent through my stereo. i typically am hard wired apple car play.

I think you may have hit a key varaible. Wired vs wireless. I wonder if wireless the vehicle just plays any sounds it recieves from phone regardless of phone settings? Vs using a wire to run sound out of your phone whoch the phone itself dictates what sounds are sent out by your settings selections in your phone .

You use one, not both. Never had an issue, and I traveled a lot. Some places would pull you over if they did not see it!

Mute your videos on instagram and have notifications turned off. The only app that does that to me now is Twitter- haven't figured that out yet.

Seems like that will just mute the videos completely. I don't mind the sound, I just want it to come out of the phone and not carplay

Tried that, but no luck. Still plays sound out of the vehicle speakers.

Is there an easy way to do that? Or just have to go into Settings > Carplay every time?

I knew someone would say it. I get it. I'm not driving and doing this. Every day I pick two kids up from school and sit in a school line for 30-40 minutes for each.
I have this problem also. If I'm in my car waiting listening to the radio/sirius and start playing around on my phone (Facebook, instagram, twitter) it will switch over to my phone for music and then I have to use the screen to switch back to whatever I was listening to.
