possible waterpump leak. any other suggestions of where to look.

Hi All and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Today was great. So much fun with my little munchkins.

had a bit of an inconvenient leak show up though. its rediculously cold up here. -30c. water freezes at 0 in c. so REALLLY COLD!!


anyway had a nice big orange melted spot below the front of the engine bay and mid between each wheel. guessing waterpump

ive been smelling whiffs of it for a while now and i think ive been betting whiffs of it as it steams off the block. upon inspection with the light its clearly coming from water pump area. its wet there. ut i cant see the actual leaking spot.

hopefully a local parts store will. e open in the morning. i should be able to bang it out in a couple hours.

it was pumpreplaced with hylomar on all gaskets. took2:45 good as gold.

just a followup here. I had a minor scare where the day after i washed the there were two small drops of what looked like orange coolant on my garage floor.

i snugged down the bolts,but all clicked the torque wrench when i tightened them. i moved the bolts maybe 2 degrees. very little.

there was a load of scum on the timing chain cover and area. it was. oxi g day (leak sprung christmas day) so i didnt have much time to do the job as we had family plans.

I used almost a whole can of brake clean to clean up the area around the water pump.

no more drips since.

i expect that the drips were from leftover coolant that was all over the lower engine and then when i washed the vehicle it mobilzed some of the scum.

i noticed that the rear heat warms up faster. ow. Im guessing i had some air pockets from the past 6months as the coolant has been depressirizing a. it from the leaks and allowing air pockets to form.

I had to. uy an extra bottle of orange dexcool because the system was purging air and drawing more in from the reservoir for the first couple drives. it has leveled off now.
