Keying all department vehicles the same is a real thing but not common anymore. The Austin Police Department in Texas had their patrol Crown Victorias keyed all the same for many years. I’m not aware of any departments doing it in the central Texas area anymore but I’m not surprised to hear that it is still a thing.
I just purchased a 2013 from City of Austin and the door lock was drilled for this reason, or so they claim.
With that being said, can anyone recommend the best route to go about fixing this? We were only provided the ignition key, nothing else. I am hoping to have the same key for door & ignition as well as a remote. Is there a kit for sale that would cover this? Is the dealer the best route? I am a bit handy, and do not mind changing the door lock, but I am not familiar with the ignition lock or remote.
First time PPV buyer and its for my wife to haul our newborn around. We do not plan on doing a lot of civilian options, just the keys, center console and front seats. (long term we would like to lower it more, change the wheels and wrap the roof)
**EDIT** Just realized I was in the wrong year range
